the vision

I started tying malas after a workshop I took in Steamboat Springs, Colorado in 2017. I had been curious about them for some time and jumped at the opportunity to make my very own piece. I soon found that the process of hand-tying a prayer into each knot became its own form of meditation, and I felt that it was a beautiful way to offer something meaningful and unique to the people I care about.

I began working on this project more deliberately back in 2018 after finding that others loved these meditation malas as much as I do. At the time this was written, I have designed and sold over 150 malas to people all over the world. That is a lot of intentional prayers and positive affirmations!

The name “Anahata Mala” came to me as a way to communicate that these pieces are truly channeled from the heart. ‘Anahata’ is the Sanskrit name for ‘heart’, and ‘mala’ means ‘garland’. Anahata Malas are a garland of Unconditional Love that you can feel, touch, and see.

I chose the hummingbird to represent Anahata Mala, as hummingbirds have the largest hearts per body mass in comparison to the entire animal kingdom. They are always moving at lightning-speed with their heart forward, drinking in the magic and delicious nectar of life every chance they get.

My intention with each Anahata Mala is that my customers can not only feel all the love I have poured into my pieces, but that they also help them tap into their own source of Unconditional Love and access more of the nectar in their own lives with the support of these crystal allies.

Each anahata mala is destined for one specific person

When I began creating these malas, it became clear to me that I wasn’t just “creating”, I was “co-creating.” I feel strongly that when I create these pieces, I am connecting to an energy bigger than myself and tapping into an infinite source of creativity.

During my meditation before I begin to create a mala, very specific messages start to come to me around what sort of intention this piece has. The prayers and affirmations come intuitively through me and almost always follow a certain pattern. By the time the piece is finished, the name has come to me and I know that it has chosen an intended recipient.

The majority of the time when a customer purchases a mala, they have a story to tell me about why this piece called to them. Their stories and the intuitive prayers I received while tying the mala almost always align in a way that feels very auspicious to me. I truly believe that I am in conscious collaboration with these crystal allies and an individual’s Higher Self or soul self has also been involved in the process.

We are all part of a larger system of energy. Energy is within every single thing in existence. When we choose to tap into this energy and use it consciously, we are able to expand our awareness in ways we haven’t been able to achieve before.

Crystals, gemstones, and minerals all have their own vibrational frequencies, just as the rest of the natural world does. These energies can be both physical and metaphysical. Crystal healing has been used around the world for millennia as a way to harness these vibrational frequencies to heal the mind, body, and spirit. I utilize these frequencies by designing these malas in what’s called a “crystal grid”. By using sacred geometry in conjunction with the energetics of the crystals, their energy is maximized!

In addition to the powerful energetic fields of crystals, gemstones, minerals, and the natural world, Anahata Malas are infused with divine energy as well.

As each piece is tied while I hold the vibration of Unconditional Love, I then infuse or ‘program’ the mala with a powerful energy-healing technique called ThetaHealing. ThetaHealing utilizes Source energy to impregnate or program the vibrational structures of the crystals to hold the frequency of the channeled intentions indefinitely, ensuring that the stones’ vibrations never get ‘dull’ or need clearing.

My customers tell me all the time how whenever they wear their Anahata Mala, they can actually feel the energy emanating off of them. Some people report getting goosebumps, feeling a rush of energy, or experiencing a resounding sensation of calm when they wear their Anahata Mala. It’s because of these reports that I love doing what I do!

Meditation can prove to be a challenge in our busy lives, with so many distractions present everywhere. Anahata Malas are designed to help you anchor into the present moment. Traditionally, malas have been used in meditation or prayer by yogis, Hindus, and Buddhists for thousands of years.

Each Anahata Mala is tied with 108 beads (plus one ‘guru’ bead). There are several different interpretations of why 108 is considered a sacred number in yogic traditions. For me, I believe the numerology of 108 is potent as it relates to the life, death, and rebirth cycles; 1 signifies the beginning or life, 0 signifies the nothingness or death, and 8 represents infinity.

To use your Anahata Mala in meditation, first begin with either a mantra, affirmation, or prayer. Begin at the guru bead, the one at the bottom of the mala above the tassel or pendant. Take your index finger and your thumb to move the beads one-by-one clockwise around the mala, saying your mantra or prayer with each bead. Your meditation will be complete when you reach the guru bead once again. By participating in this meditation with your mala, you are infusing it with your own energy and sending out your prayers into the Universe for manifestation, inner peace, joy, or whatever other intention you have set!
